Stainless Steel

48″ x 50″ x 16″

I like to work with stainless steel. It’s a metal I’m very familiar with. To start, I usually make a small scale model then I use an enlarger to make paper patterns. Next I transfer the patterns to sheet metal then cut the sheet metal out using a plasma cutter. Lastly, I grind the edges to get the slag off so they can be welded together, weld it up, and figure out the kind of finish I want. Sometimes l like a body buffer finish to catch as much light reflection as possible. Other times I like a smooth satin finish. All edges are ground smooth, no sharp edges.

I have worked at the Paul Mueller Co. for 22 years. I’m a certified welder, proud member of the Local 208 Sheet Metal Workers Union, and I have 35 years experience in sheet metal. A couple of my favorite artists are Claus Oldenburg and David Smith.
