Location: Steak N’ Shake (at the corner of National Ave. and St. Louis St.)

Emergence is a sculpture fabricated: in 2017 at Southeast Missouri State University’s metal shop by artist Deanna Hoffman. Deanna received a grant from Rick Hetzel of R. Hetzel Properties for the fabrication of the piece as a selected focal point for the Spradling House. It was displayed as a focal point to the building on Broadway Street in Cape Girardeau for a year and will now be a part of the Sculpture Walk Springfield 2018 Exhibition.

The earthy, dark sculpture, Emergence reflects overcoming hardships in life. As the leafy forms emerge off a rocky bottom, the sculpture reminds us that we too can endure hardship and emerge forward stronger than ever.

Deanna Hoffman is a senior at Southeast Missouri State University pursuing her BFA in Art with an emphasis in Sculpture. After graduating, Deanna hopes to attend Graduate school to improve her artistic skill. After graduation she will continue to create art, igniting a conversation between people with a respect for nature and the environment. Deanna’s dream is to contribute to the earth by triggering a connection with people and nature through her art forms.
