Painted Steel

Location: Southeast corner of Campbell Ave. & Walnut St.

Wedges 3 uses small yellow cubes, constructed of painted steel, to extend from two pyramid-like segments towards the sky. The cubes are strung together by raw steel that reference visual elements found in heavy machinery. The steel defies its industrial inspirations and defies gravity itself, by humorously dancing far above the viewer’s head. Matt takes a lighthearted approach to explore the rigid geometry of heavy machinery through his use of colorful, playful and spatially interactive forms to engage the surrounding architecture and the people who inhabit them. The bright yellow paint on Wedges 3 has the ability to relate to many different surrounds including past installations near railroad tracks, parks in bloom, college campuses and urban street settings.
