Cast Iron & Stainless Steel
Location: NW Corner of South Ave. & Walnut St.
This sculpture was inspired by the desire to use cast iron light fixtures from a building. When laid out, they reminded me of money graphics. A large coin became the sculpture’s subject, complemented by the cast iron base. The Monticello symbol was chosen for its recognition on a nickel. My design of an Indian head for the coin’s face, depicted as a disk, felt appropriate since the term “Indian Head Nickel” is ingrained in our culture. Coincidentally, the two groups of people most abused for wealth in American history are linked to this imagery.
