Positivity in Negative Space reflects a language I created during childhood to navigate classroom environments where learning was challenging. The colorful forms in this work are derived from stylized, abstracted words and feelings I scribbled in the margins of my notebooks as a way to cope. These shapes are intentionally difficult to read or decipher, mirroring the experience of trying to make sense of information that never fully settles, and echoing the confusion and frustration I felt.
Struggling with dyslexia at a young age was far from easy. Yet, as an adult, I recognize the persistence it demanded and the resilience it fostered. My perspective on these challenges has shifted—I now see them as a strength rather than a limitation. The title, Positivity in Negative Space, symbolizes the interplay of positive and negative spaces in our lives—the highs and lows that shape us. Both are essential, and together they give form and meaning to the whole.
