I constantly have ideas floating around in my head. Many times my ideas are far too large for my resources. Soar is one of these big ideas. I wanted to make a statement with a large public sculpture. I also wanted to use materials and techniques that were connected to my past as a craftsman/ tradesman. It started as a model. An eagle with a fifteen foot wingspan—raised up into the air above the viewers. I decided to make it out of multiple colored tiles as a symbol of hope. The eagle is symbolic of many different things to me. The piece finds inspiration from social, political, and spiritual areas. I am inspired by nature, family, and faith.
