This piece explores the emotions and desires I have experienced as a father raising three boys. I use one of the most beautiful creatures as my inspiration, the butterfly. The piece has three large butterflies, each one getting larger as it flies upward into the sky. The natural change process the creature goes through is similar to the human experience even though a butterfly’s life span is drastically shorter. As a parent one can see a connection to raising children, trying to provide and protect them before they start their journey into adulthood. In this sculpture, I attempt to express the hope I desire as a father for my “butterflies” when they begin flying away to start their own adult lives.
